Construction well underway in eco-friendly bike bar

In mid-June, Oregon residents will be able to enjoy a bar specifically designed for eco-conscious commuters looking to enjoy a drink after a long ride. According to the Oregonian, Christian Ettinger has been working on opening the Hopworks Bike Bar for some time and is set to start welcoming customers within the next three weeks.

“It’s more of what people love,” Ettinger told the news source. “North Williams is a great, vibrant neighborhood and we’re right on the bike highway, so we expect to attract energy conscious consumers.”

The pub is roughly 2,500 feet long and can seat about 100 individuals inside. A back patio can accommodate up to 25 more and allows customers to sit back and watch the parade of cyclists make their way down the well-trafficked path.

Customers will have the opportunity to fill up their water bottles and enjoy specialty drinks designed to fit in standard bike bottle holders. Additionally, those looking to productively spend their free time can hop on one of two stationary bicycles and pedal to feed power into the building.

The Bike Bar is located on the ground floor of the EcoFlats building, which is on the cutting edge of sustainability and energy efficiency. Ettinger tells the news outlet that this is a good fit for his ideas and is centrally located to ensure it attracts the clientele it’s looking for.

A canopy of bike frames will stretch down the length of the bar. While this decoration itself isn’t very original, where other businesses use salvaged frames from junkyards, Ettinger is using the space to feature high-end bicycles made by designers who would otherwise have no place to show off their wares.

“Also, we hope to do some of the things that we didn’t have time for in the rush to build and open the first Hopworks, such as more kinetic features, like bicycle powered ceiling fans and other ideas,” Ettinger explains.

The Bike Bar is an excellent example of how nontraditional thinking can yield creative and innovative results. Ettinger is attracting a whole demographic that has been previously untapped in the bar market. Those looking to design their own space can take a cue from the Bike Bar and do their best to find customers who don’t feel reached out to. Modern furniture comes in a variety of styles, one of which will be sure to perfectly suit your target customers.
